• The mosaic has Pope John XXII. It was Pope John XXII that commissioned the mosaic. To the left of Pope John XXII is an eagle which is the symbol of the evangelist John. The symbol of Matthew is on the other side of this arch. The symbols of the other two evangelists, Luke and Mark, are on the back side of the triumphal arch
