• The fresco is Triumph of the Cross. This is the only remaining fresco in all of St. Peters

 

• The theme of the cross is because, before the pieta statue was placed here, there was a wooden crucifix in this chapel which was attributed to Pietro Cavallini. This crucifix is now located in the small chapel just to the left under the Monument of Leo XII
