Artist: Leonardo Reti

Date: 1675

• The base relief is of the Holy Door being opened in 1675

• On the floor, in front of the monument, is a stone that marks the tombs of Popes Sixtus IV (1471-1484) and Julius II (1503-1513). They were previously buried in the right aisle in the Blessed Sacrament Chapel but relocated here in 1926. Julius II was instrumental in the building of this new St. Peters basilica. Michelangelo was supposed to make Julius II's tomb with 40 statutes but only the famous Moses, now found in S. Pietro in Vincoli, was ever completed.
