• With the old church falling into disrepair, Cardinal Borghese (1576-1633) in 1609 had Flaminio Ponzio design a new church. Thus Borghese's coat of arms is found over the middle window and the inscription records his name

 

• The coat of arms of Pope Paul V (1605-1621) are found in the tympanum

​

• The six granite columns in the lower portico come from the original church
