Corsini Chapel

Artist: Galilei

Date: 1732-1735

 

• The chapel was built by Galilei by the gift of Pope Clement XII (1730-1740) who was of the Corsini family

• The altarpiece is St. Andrew Corsini. St. Andrew Corsini (1302-1374) was the bishop of Fiesole in Italy. The relief above is of the battle of Anghiari in 1440 where St. Andrew Corsini miraculously appeared to help the people of Florence

• The four pendentives have the four cardinal virtues: prudence, justice, temperance, and fortitude
