• When the new building was being constructed in 1599-1623, the Jesuits were careful to preserve the original rooms where St. Ignatius lived and died.

• In 1605 the rooms were made into chapels. Gradually they were embellished over the years.

• In 1991 the rooms were restored to their original state.
