Chapel of St. Francis Xavier
Artist: Pietro da Cortona
Date: 1674-1678
• St. Francis Xavier (1506-1552) was one of the original Jesuits under St. Ignatius of Loyola. He is especially famous for his missionary zeal
• The right forearm of St. Francis Xavier, with which he baptized, is displayed above the altar
• The benefactor for the chapel was Giovanni Francesco Negrone (1629-1713). Because of their kindness to him, Negrone placed the coat of arms of Pope Clement IX on the left and Pope Innocent XI on the right. Pope Innocent XI later made him a cardinal in 1686. His tombstone is in front of the chapel to the left
