• The statue is Charlemagne. Charlemagne (800-828) was the first king to be crowned in St. Peter's. The porphyry disk where he was crowned king on Christmas day, 800 by Pope Leo III (795-816) can still be seen within St. Peter's
• The niche statues are prudence, temperance, justice, and fortitude (none are pictured)
