• The monument is Tomb of Gregory XIV. These decorations were previously for Gregory XIII's (1572-1585) tomb. When Camillo Rusconi completed Gregory XIII's monument, which is now on the opposite wall, they moved his remains there in 1723. This monument was appropriated for Pope Gregory XIV (1590-1591) in 1842
