• The inscription of Boniface VIII (1294-1303) notes the promulgation of the first Holy Year in 1300. Since that beginning of the tradition, Holy Years have occurred at regular intervals as well as special occasions. The Holy Years were also later attached to the opening of the Holy Door (to the right)
