• After the fire, excavations revealed a 1st-2nd century tomb below the altar. The writing on the slab reads PAULO APOSTOLOMART and is from the 4th century
• The slab had three openings so that incense could be placed inside on St. Paul's feast day and pilgrims could touch objects against his relics. A copy is in the museum
