• St. Ignatius of Loyola (1491-1556) was the founder of the Society of Jesus, often called the Jesuits
• The relics of Ignatius of Loyola are found below the altar. The relics were placed here only 13 days before his canonization which occurred on March 12, 1622
• The balustrade in front of the altar was designed by Pozzo
