• The angels' military band instruments indicate Carafa's naval conquests. From top- right, they hold a cornamuse, triangle, drum, three torches, harp, trumpet, and drum

• To the right and left of Mary, the two thuribles are based on those of Sandro Botticelli in the Sistine chapel
