St. Processus and St. Martinian

• The altarpiece is Martyrdom of St. Processus and St. Martinian. As the story goes, Processus and Martinian were guards during the imprisonment of Peter and Paul in the Mamertine. They were both converted to Christianity and later martyred.

 

• In the 9th century the relics of St. Processus and St. Martinian were moved to old St. Peter's and are now under this altar

 

• The two porphyry columns are from the high altar of old St. Peters
