Anchor 1 ▼ ▶ ◀ Easter Candlestick Artist: Nicolaus de Angelo; Petro Bassaletto Date: 1170 • The scenes on the candlestick are of Jesus' suffering, death, resurrection, and ascension as well as of various animals. Jesus is clothed in a tunic which was an iconographic tradition that was falling out of favor at the time • The base and top may have been reused from an older candlestick. It is about 18 feet in height • At the base the inscription reads: "I Nicolaus de Angelo with Petro Bassaletto produced this work."

Anchor 1 ▲ St. Sebastian Altar • This is a reliquary with a skull of St. Sebastian. • St. Sebastian was an officer in the Praetorian Guard under Diocletian (284-305). Sentenced to death for being a Christian, the archers were ordered to shoot him. A widow Irene nursed him back to health and he again went before the emperor and was clubbed to death • Cardinal Giovanni Garzia Mellini was titular (1608-1627) and benefactor for the apse renovations. Anchor 1 ▼ ◀ Tomb of Cardinal Adam Easton of Hertford Titular: 1389-1398 Artist: Paolo Romano • Cardinal Adam Easton was English as evident from the English coat of arms in the center of the tomb. The two surrounding coats of arms are his own. • The tomb was once found in another place in the church, destroyed, and in 1891 reassembled in its present location.

From the left are Luke, Paul, Peter, and Andrew. Pope Honorius III, who commissioned the mosaic, is displayed as a tiny figure kneeling at Jesus' feet. It is atypical for the Pope to be displayed in such a humble manner • Below, in the center, is a jeweled cross and instruments of the passion. From left to right are James the Great, Bartholomew, Thomas, Simon, Matthias, Mark, angel, angel, John, Philip, Matthew, James the Less, Jude, and Barnabas. These were the four Popes from the time of the fire until the reconsecration of the transept
