Anchor 1 ▼ Papal Altar ▲ ▶ ◀ Artist: Giovanni di Stefano Date: 1367 ca; 1846-1878 • There is a story that the upper part of this altar is a wood altar that was used by St. Peter and the early popes • The white marble altar was the gift of Pope Urban V (1362-1370) and thus has his coat of arms in the center. It was later refinished by Pope Pius IX (1846-1878)
