St. Andrew Corsini (1302-1374) was the bishop of Fiesole in Italy. The relief above is of the battle of Anghiari in 1440 where St. Andrew Corsini miraculously appeared to help the people of Florence • The four pendentives have the four cardinal virtues: prudence, justice, temperance, and fortitude ▲ ▲

The lower is the story of the cross: St. Helen figures out where it is buried, she finds the cross, the cross brings a young man back to life, St. Helen raises the cross for worship with the benefactor of the apse Cardinal Carvajal, the king of Persia Chosroes II takes the cross in 615 when he wins Jerusalem, emperor Heraclius defeats the Persians and returns the cross ▶ ◀

Anchor 1 ▶ ◀ Christ the Risen Redeemer Artist: Michelangelo Date: 1519-1521 • Commissioned by Bernardo Cencio, Mario Scappucci, Pietro Castellano, and Metello Vari this second version was created after a black vein was found in the first version. Michelangelo worked on it in Florence and then sent it to his apprentice Pietro Urbano in Rome. After Urbano damaged the work, Federico Frizzi finished the statue • The loin cloth was a later addition as Christ's sexual organs were visible in order to express his victory over lust and death • Sebastiano del Piombo said of this work that "the knees alone were worthy of more than the whole Rome" ▼
