The Confraternity of Virtuosi were the patrons of the chapel. This confraternity would meet here annually on March 19, the feast day of their own patron St. Joseph, to give dowries to poor girls

Anchor 1 ▼ Capranica Chapel Artist: Marcello Venusti Date: 1573-1579 • In the panels are Mysteries of the Rosary • After the historical Battle of Lepanto in 1571, Angelo Capranica, a descendant of the family and member of the Confraternity of the Rosary, had Marcello Venusti decorate the ceiling with the Mysteries of the Rosary in 1573 • This idea of taking your subject from a major historical event marked the beginning of a new style of painting. Anchor 1 ▼ ▶ ◀ Statue of St. Cecilia Artist: Stefano Maderno Date: 1600 • During Cardinal Sfondrati's remodel in 1599 the three sarcophagi placed here by Paschal I in the 9th century were found. • Maderno was present when they opened the sarcophagi and modeled his statue on the body of St. Cecila • St Cecilia was covered by a dark silk veil and wore a gold cloth dress stained with blood • The second sarcophagus contained Sts. Valerian, Tiburtius, and Maximus • The third sarcophagus contained Sts. Pope Urban I and Pope Lucius I
