Anchor 1 ▼ ▶ ◀ Statue of St. Cecilia Artist: Stefano Maderno Date: 1600 • During Cardinal Sfondrati's remodel in 1599 the three sarcophagi placed here by Paschal I in the 9th century were found. • Maderno was present when they opened the sarcophagi and modeled his statue on the body of St. Cecila • St Cecilia was covered by a dark silk veil and wore a gold cloth dress stained with blood • The second sarcophagus contained Sts. Valerian, Tiburtius, and Maximus • The third sarcophagus contained Sts. Pope Urban I and Pope Lucius I
