Anchor 1 ▲ ▶ ◀ Albani Chapel Artist: Carlo Fontana Date: 1706-1712 • Pope Clement XI (1700-1721) built this as a funeral chapel for his family (Albani) and dedicated it to Pope St. Fabian (236-250) who was martyred in the persecution of Decius (249-251). Excavations in 1915 are believed to have found St. Fabian's body under the ground near the center of the main church. A reliquary behind the altar contains his head • At one time this church was dedicated to St. Fabian as well as to St. Sebastian. Still today both still share a feast day on January 20th Artist: Francesco Papaleo Date: 1712 • The statue is St. Fabian. Note that his vestments have been updated to the 17th century fashion ▼
