From left, Claudius converts Simplicius, Simplicius baptized by Cyril of Antioch, sculptors ordered to make statue of Asclepius, the sculptors, sculptors scourged, widow of Lampadius requests death, Nicetas forces sculptors into caskets and puts them in the Sava river (not pictured) ▼

Anchor 1 ▼ ▲ ▶ ◀ Borghese Chapel Artist: Flaminio Ponzio Date: 1605 • The chapel is named after Borghese Pope Paul V (1605-1621) who wished to honor the Salus Populi Romani icon placed here in 1613. In medieval times this icon was thought to have been painted by St. Luke, the gospel writer, but it is now dated to the 9th or 12th centuries • Ponzio followed the designs of the Sistine Chapel opposite that Fontana had used Artist: Pompeo Targoni; Girolamo Rainaldi Date: 1609-1612 • The main altar has columns of Oriental jasper
