Anchor 1 ▼ ▶ ◀ Fresco Date: Late 500s • The remains of a fresco from the church of Pope Pelagius II (578-590) that was found during the mid-1800s renovations. Pelagius's church is where the altar is currently located. The current nave, where the fresco is now, was a later addition of Pope Honorius III (1216-1227).

Anchor 1 ▼ Apse Mosaic Artist: Iacopo Torriti Date: 1295 • The mosaic is Coronation of the Virgin • Jesus, placing a crown on Mary's head, has a book that reads: "Come, my chosen one, and I will place you on my throne." They share the same throne held by 9 angels on each side. The sun and moon are below the throne. Above is a huge acanthus plant • On the left, are St. Francis of Assisi, St. Paul, St. Peter, and Pope Nicholas IV • On the right, Cardinal Giacomo Colonna (1250-1318 ca), St. John the Baptist, St. John the Evangelist, and St. Anthony of Padua

Rainaldi (design); Ercole Ferrata (Charity on left); Domenico Guidi (Pope); Cosimo Fancelli (Faith on right) Date: 1671 • This monument was designed to match that opposite it of Pope Nicholas IV. Both monuments were originally near the main altar but moved here by Fuga. Pope Clement IX is still buried near the main altar ◀

Anchor 1 ▼ Rooms of St. Stanislaus • St. Stanislaus Kostka (1550-1568) died in these rooms on August 15, 1586. He is buried in this church in the chapel bearing his name • St. Stanislaus actually died in another building to the right of the present church. While that building was destroyed, in 1888-1889 the rooms were reconstructed in the present location
