Anchor 1 ▶ ◀ Christ the Risen Redeemer Artist: Michelangelo Date: 1519-1521 • Commissioned by Bernardo Cencio, Mario Scappucci, Pietro Castellano, and Metello Vari this second version was created after a black vein was found in the first version. Michelangelo worked on it in Florence and then sent it to his apprentice Pietro Urbano in Rome. After Urbano damaged the work, Federico Frizzi finished the statue • The loin cloth was a later addition as Christ's sexual organs were visible in order to express his victory over lust and death • Sebastiano del Piombo said of this work that "the knees alone were worthy of more than the whole Rome" ▼

Anchor 1 ▼ Chapel of the Relics of the Passion • The monument is Tomb of Antonietta Meo. Antonietta (1930-1937) was declared a Venerable Servant of God in 2007. This is the first step of her cause towards sainthood. This church is the location of her baptism and she often prayed here

Baronino (1511-1554) was an architect • The tomb in the center is Funeral Monument of Perin del Vaga. Perin (1500-1547) was an assistant to Raphael who is buried in the next chapel to the right • The tomb on the right is Funeral Monument of Taddeo Zuccari. Zuccari lived from 1529-1566 ▲

Anchor 1 ▼ ▲ ◀ St. Erasmus Date: 1988 • On the celebration of 1000 years of Christian faith in Ukraine in 1988, the oval of St. Olga (890-969 ca.) was placed here. Olga became Christian around 955. She was the grandmother of St. Vladimir who was baptized in 988 and, later as the Grand Duke of Kiev, promoted the faith in Kievan Russia

Anchor 1 St. Benedict Chapel Artist: Luigi Poletti Date: 1800s • After the fire, this chapel was redesigned by Poletti to recall the cella of a Greco-Roman temple. The grey columns are ancient columns from Veio. In the original basilica, this space was the entrance passage from the Via Ostiense ▶ ◀
